Harlee

“Hannah doesn't like you very much,” I said randomly before offering Kayo a sly grin.

He looked up from his menu but only for a second before he focused on it again. “Oh yeah, what makes you say that?” he asked.

I laughed. “Because she told me that she didn't like you.”

He placed my menu down on the table in front of him and looked at me. Kayo leaned back propping his arm up on the back of my chair.

His eyes were on me but weren't giving away any clues to what he was thinking. “Is that a problem for you?” was his next question.

“Nope, not at all.”

“Then I don't really give a fuck how Hannah feels about me.” His hand removed his hat and then moved across his hair before he replaced it and gripped his neck. I watched lustfully at how sexy he was. Everything about him was sexy, even the way he breathed. Shit, Harlee, the way he breathes. Really?

I smiled at the thought I was having which made him look at me with raised brows.

“You look pretty amused over there. You wanna share?” he asked.

“Not really,” I admitted.

He released the sexiest laugh before lowering his hand onto the table. My eyes followed it and I noticed the tattoo printed on the inside of his thumb that started at the tip of it, leading to the tip of his index finger. It was a name and a date. I leaned forward and touched it with the tip of my finger, tracing it from one end to the other.

“What's that?” I asked.

He held his hand up and looked at it before clenching his fist, releasing it and placing his hand back on the table. His face softened a little before he spoke.

“It's my sister’s name.”

“You two must really be close.” I smiled. I didn't have family, but I wished I did.

“We use to be. She died when we were kids.”

“Oh gosh. I’m sorry.”

He smiled and covered my hand with his. “It's fine. Not a big deal. That was a long time ago.”

“How did she… never mind.” I didn't want to push.

Kayo released my hand and leaned back in chair. He removed the fitted cap that he was wearing again and then his hand moved across his head before he returned it, pulling it down low so that his eyes were once again covered.

“My sister was murdered when we were kids. We were ten years old and outside playing like we always were, except this time, I was tired of her tagging along with me. I loved my sister, but being twins is hard sometimes because you’re always together. I needed a minute to just be me, to hang out with my friends without her, so I snuck off with D.B. and my boys to go play ball.

“She stayed behind playing in our yard while my mom was inside. I knew it hurt my sister’s feelings, but I was a ten-year loud little boy rebelling, so I didn't care. Some guy drove by, saw my sister, and snatched her up.
